Today Natty, Sam, Alice and Paddy did some experiments on elephants toothpaste. Mrs Quaid wanted to see if the 10% hydrogen peroxide could be used in the experiment instead of 35%. We used 20ml of 10% hydrogen peroxide and 5ml of potassium iodide and 1ml of dishwashing liquid. Paddy diluted the dish washing liquid. Paddy found out that diluting the dish washing liquid with water make the reaction slower and not very stable. Sam changed the amount of dishwashing liquid. Sam found out that the more dishwashing liquid you add the slower the reaction gets and you need to get the ratio right. He found that 1ml of dishwashing liquid works best with the 20-5 ratio. Natty changed the amount of hydrogen peroxide. Natty found out that by adding more or less hydrogen peroxide you are changing the ratio of hydrogen peroxide to potassium iodide so his experiments were sort of doing the same thing as Alice. He found out that adding less hydrogen peroxide improved the experiment and the best ratio was 1-1. Alice changed the amount of potassium iodide. Alice found out that adding more potassium iodide improved the experiment and made the reaction faster and more vigorous. But you would need to add more dish washing liquid to give it more structure because it becomes weak and just pools out of the container instead of spraying..
Altogether we found out that the 10% is a much slower and more boring reaction and we would need to make severe changes to the formula to make it show worthy.
