Cabbage Indicator

This was the very first science experiment I did in the lab! First we put about 2 cups of water into a beaker full of purple cabbage. After 10 mins or so the pigment came out of the cabbage and made purple water! We got smaller beakers and put different quantities of NaOH and HCI in using a pipette. When the cabbage water was added to the smaller beakers it changed from a purple colour to either green, red, pink or a darker purple depending on how much acid was in the chemicals. The redder it was the more acidic it was and the greener it was the less acidic. The whole idea of this experiment was to see if cabbage can be an indictor and from our testing we see that it can! This was really cool and it was fun to watch the colours seperate and the prettiest colour was the blue and purple!!
