Digital Millennium Copyright Act

According to Edmonds, the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) was passed in 1998 in attempts control copyright online (132). Its exigence was from peer-to-peer (P2P) sharing online, and this was Congress' way of stopping people trading digital files. With a subpoena, agencies are able to try to get a person's name associated with an Internet Protocol (IP) address suspected of being involved in P2P sharing.
