DISCUSSION
"Truth or Tale Activity" - the teacher will show small cards with scenarios and the pupils will determine if it's "Truth" or "Tale"
Right after the activity, the teacher will ask how they came up with their answers.
After gathering the information, the teacher will now proceed the lesson proper.
“Truthfulness is the foundation of all human virtues.”
1. Sanjay dropped a vase and broke it. When his mother asked him what had happened, he told her the truth and did not lie. Sanjay showed the virtue of truthfulness.
2. A friend wanted to play with Gino and went to his house to find him. Gino had homework and could not come out to play. His brother said he would tell the friend that he was not home, but Gino did not want his brother to lie. Gino went outside and explained to his friend that he could not play because he had homework. Gino showed the virtue of truthfulness.
Truth is really a very small component of the character of most people today. Our own thoughts, words, and actions will define our character if we are good and truthful in everything we say and do. It is important that the people we come in contact or communicate with should see what is in our heart. We should be aware that the news, television programs, and advertisements read, heard, and seen should be examined and analyzed well.
They should show truthfulness and appropriateness to our age and not show violence. It is our responsibility to be aware of the kind of messages we want to convey to others. Most children nowadays communicate or gather news everywhere.
We have to be sure that we send and receive truthful and genuine messages to others.
The way we carry ourselves and treat others will show the kind of person we are.
Truthful person do honest things over and over again even if no one is looking. Trust is when people can count on you in doing the right thing even when no one sees or watches you.
A person shows truthfulness in the things he or she does when:
1. He or she stands for what he or she believes is right.
2. He or she uses words that match his or her actions.
3. He or she does not fool himself or herself in doing what he or she knows is wrong.
4. He or she fills his or her mind with things that will help him or her live a clean life.
5. He or she puts into practice what he or she knows is always right.
6. He or she asks permission from his or her parents with the use of social media, who should then carefully explain to him or her the following:
a. potential dangers of social media due to some bullying practices of other people
b. pros and cons of social networking sites
c. careful analysis of online posting
d. privacy and confidentiality of one’s account.
7. He or she asks himself or herself if there is truthfulness in the news, issues, and advertisements he or she has read or heard in the newspapers, television, social media, or Internet.
8. He or she examines truthfully, clearly, and critically the situations or current events that he or she has encountered.
9. He or she also seeks the guidance of parents once he or she read or heard news that conveys untruthful messages.
Reasons why people sometimes are not truthful in the things they do:
1. They are avoiding trouble and protecting themselves by pretending that they were not the one who did the bad actions, when in fact they were the one who did it.
2. They are avoiding punishment from strict parents and teachers.
3. They are avoiding embarrassment so that they will still have friends.
4. They are covering up for others, like members of their family or friends.
5. They want others to get into trouble.
To be successful in this, people have to remember some guidelines:
1. Always do what you say and honor your promises; this requires that a person is dependable and keeps the promise whether it is significant or not.
2. Tell the truth and never lie; be honest and speak the truth. If it is unavoidable to lie, confess as soon as possible and admit your mistake. If you cannot accept your mistake, your lying will cause anxiety, depression, and physical illness. Other people might not believe you anymore.
3. Show strong moral attitude. Be confident. No betrayal should be observed when you are away from others. Be truthful and dedicated.
4. Be consistent in your behavior. Show ability in good judgment, loyalty, and protection of other people’s rights whether in their absence or presence.
5. Be neutral and fair when placed in difficult situations. Do not be one-sided or show bias when making decisions but consider both sides and show balanced judgment.
