How do we round numbers to the nearest thousands and ten thousands?
Rounded numbers are only approximates; they are not accurate values. Numbers are rounded to make them easy to use when computing them.
When rounding numbers, it usually means that zero (s) will be placed at the end. Whole numbers can be rounded to the nearest tens place, hundreds place, thousands place, and so on.
To round a number to a given place value, follow these steps:
Look for the digit in the given place value.
Look at the number at the right of this digit. If the number is greater than or equal to 5, move up or add 1 to the digit in the given place value.
If the number is less than 5, keep the digit.
Then, replace all the digits at the right of that place value with zero.
