Physical Characteristics of the Region
The physical characteristics of the regions are different from each other. There are regions along the plains. Some are in the mountain ranges. There are also regions along the coastlines. Still, others are located in valleys while some lie in the thick forests. Looking at the physical map of the Philippines, there are symbols that represent the different physical characteristics of a region.
These physical characteristics influenced the means of livelihood of the people in the region.
Region I occupies the narrow plain between the Cordillera Mountain Ranges and the West Philippine Sea. It is located in the northwest part of Luzon. Its boundaries are Babuyan Channel on the north, Central Luzon on the south, Cordillera Mountain range on the east, and the Philippine Sea on the west.
Region VIII is another group of islands in the Visayas. The entire region is surrounded by water. The Pacific Ocean is on the northern and eastern part, while the Camotes and Bohol Seas are in the western and southern part of the region. The topography of the regions is mountainous. Valleys are also found here.
Region X is a combination of coastal areas, hills, mountains, and plains. It serves as a gateway that links Mindanao to the other places in the country and the world because of its modern airports and seaports. Bukidnon is a plateau and considered the largest province in the region. Camiguin is the smallest province of Region X and yet, seven volcanoes can be found there. Misamis Oriental lies in the middle of the northern coastline of Mindanao.
