When we speak and write, we want our readers and listeners to understand our ideas thoroughly and completely. We
also target for our sentences to be interesting.
Without us knowing it, we use different structures or forms of sentences to let the details of our sentences flows smoothly. These different sentence structures make our ideas more interesting and more understandable.
Below is a blog entry of Nathan who visited Palawan last summer.
Were you able to know about Nathan’s experiences in Palawan through his blog? What do you think was Nathan’s reason for writing this?
Notice that Nathan used simple and compound sentences in sharing the events of his visit in Palawan. What do you think will happen if Nathan just
chose to use one sentence structure instead of having a variation?
Variation in our sentences makes our ideas more interesting and more understandable. This will also make your readers and listeners hooked especially when you tell stories or share your own experiences.
Notice how variation in the sentence structures made the blogs interesting, readable, and understandable.
In the previous blogs that share events or experiences of their writers, both simple and compound sentences were used.
