Discussions
What do you notice when you attend your Sunday mass? Have you
noticed what others wear inside the church? Do they fit the occasion?
Today, some people wear different attires when going to church.
Boys wear t-shirts, polo shirts, short pants, long pants, jogging pants, and
casual denims. Girls are in pants and t-shirts, too. Some wear miniskirts
or casual dresses. Some with sleeveless blouses or deep necklines. Some
look prim and proper with their classic style blouse and below the knee skirts.
What attire is proper for an occasion as in attending a Sunday mass?
Importance of Wearing the Right Clothes for the Right Occasion
Knowing the right kind of clothes to wear on every occasion is important for the following reasons:
1. It makes you feel confident that you are wearing the right attire.
2. There are no feelings of doubt, uneasiness, or fear that you are out of place in an occasion.
3. It removes any anxiety or worries about being criticized by others.
4. It gives a feeling of comfort that you are accepted and perhaps even admired for wearing the right attire for the occasion.
Elements To Consider in Choosing Clothes
In choosing the right clothes, consider the line, color, and design of what you are wearing.
1. Lines in clothes create different optical illusions. For instance, vertical lines can make you look taller and slimmer; horizontal lines can make you look wider and big. Curve lines, on the other hand, give a touch of grace and softness in your figure.
2. Color in clothes conveys different feelings. Green is fresh, red is hot and attractive, blue is cool, pink is sweet, yellow is cheerful, black is formal, and white is pure. Choose the color that suits your personality.
Other than these, colors give different illusions of size and height just like lines. Black and dark colors absorb light and can make you look smaller. White and light colors tend to reflect light and can make you look bigger. When you are big, wear dark colors to make yourself look smaller. On the other hand, if you are small, you can wear light colors to make yourself look big.
Color in clothes should also harmonize with your complexion. If your complexion is dark, choose colors that are neither too dark nor too light. On the other hand, if your complexion is light, any color can go with your skin.
3. Design in clothes tells much about your personality. For example, one who is fond of flowery design is feminine, while solid lines are masculine.
Designs just like lines and color also create the illusion of size. Clothes with larger designs tend to make you appear bigger, while those with small or dainty design tend to make you look smaller. Choose designs that are appropriate for you. As a rule, design in clothes should be simple and appropriate to the occasion. Designs may change from time to time depending on what is in fashion. It is always safe to choose designs that are classic or timeless, such as lines or just plain solid colors that are matched with different accessories depending on the occasion. A necklace, a brooch, a ribbon, a corsage, a scarf, a waistband, and a necktie can be formal accents to a very simple attire.
Choosing Clothes for the Right Occasions
What different occasions do you attend to? There are different occasions like attending class in school, playing games in the gym or game field, going on outings or picnics, going shopping or malling, attending mass in Church, visiting different places, and attending parties and other celebrations.
1. School clothes or uniforms – These should be simple, washable, colorfast, free of fussy trimmings, and durable. The style and color are decided upon the school. Wear your uniform neat and clean to look attractive and pleasing to others.
2. Sunday clothes – These are usually more elaborate than school clothes. Colors are usually brighter and more delicate. Accessories are used to enhance the dress. Crepe, batiste, eyelets, linen, pique, and even cotton are suitable materials for these.
