ASSESSMENT
Activity 1: Let’s Try This Out!
This will be done in groups.
You will need the following materials for this activity:
sand (enough to cover the hands and make sure the source is clean),
water
tissue paper
wet wipes
Each group should have one set of materials.
Important: Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and clean water after the activity.
Task 1
1. Each member will have to put one hand in the sand. Make sure the sand covers the entire palm of your hand. Remove your hand from the sand.
Are there sand particles left on your palm? Do you see them?
2. Shake them off.
3. Now, wipe your hands with wet wipes. Do you see dirt on the wet wipes?
Task 2
1. Wet your palm with the wet wipes. Dip your palm in the sand while it’s wet, then remove from the sand. Are there sand particles left on your palm? Do you see them? Shake them off.
2. Wipe your palm with wet wipes. Do you see sand particles on the wet wipes?
Consider the sand as germs (virus, bacteria, parasite, or fungi). Answer the following questions:
1. Are there germs big enough to be seen? Are there germs that cannot be seen? When do you see them?
2. Can you remove the germs by just shaking them off? Or wiping them with tissue paper? Why?
3. If you cannot see the germs on your hands, does it mean that they are not there? Would you hold your food with your hands without washing them?
4. What should you do to make sure your hands are always free from germs?
