Assessments that aren't connected with learning objectives or instructional methodologies can have a negative impact on both student motivation and learning.
Students who are honing their analytical skills are may or will be dissatisfied because the exam does not assess what they have learnt.
3. Why should assessment tasks be aligned to the learning outcomes?
Building alignment between assessment and learning outcomes also allows you to create and communicate a learning progression pathway for your students. It allows you to explain what knowledge and skills were expected at the start of the course as well as what knowledge and skills will be developed throughout the course.
