Mark 2:13-17
Jesus Came for Sinners
13 Once again Jesus went out beside the lake. A large crowd came to him, and he began to teach them. 14 As he walked along, he saw Levi son of Alphaeus sitting at the tax collector’s booth. “Follow me,” Jesus told him, and Levi got up and followed him.
15 While Jesus was having dinner at Levi’s house, many tax collectors and sinners were eating with him and his disciples, for there were many who followed him. 16 When the teachers of the law who were Pharisees saw him eating with the sinners and tax collectors, they asked his disciples: “Why does he eat with tax collectors and sinners?”
17 On hearing this, Jesus said to them, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.”
Mark 10:18
No One is Good, Except God
18 "Why do you call me good?" Jesus answered. "No one is good--except God alone.
John 14:6
Jesus is Truth
6 Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
I think that centuries ago that reason and logic was the way to looked at truth and goodness...And in our reasoning and our logic we took a broad and general approach as the way to look at truth and goodness...Things and ideas of the past helped influence the way people looked at truth and goodness...Today, it seems, truth has become very personal to each of us...We are using our individual and personal feelings more and more to find and look at truth and goodness...We are reasoning more with our feelings and emotions...It seems that truth is and has become, if "it" feels right to me and if "it" feels good to me, "it" is okay to do "it"...And "it" can be whatever one is doing at the current time...Truth seems to be bending...This is not what the Bible or Jesus teach us...There is right and wrong in our society and feeling good may or may not be the right moral thing to do...There used to be much authority in the ancient days and in our past traditions...No toleration of many things have grown up and out of this...We tolerate movies, TV shows, music which many years ago, would not have been tolerated...
The questions maybe -are our feelings, desires, and emotions becoming more and more the way and how we look at things?...Is their some limit to gradual toleration, as some in society and our culture push the envelope?...And if that premise is growing and is true, how will our societies and cultures be many years from now?...
Jesus told us He came for sinners...He even said He did not come to call the righteous...Those that that they were righteous, did not know or see the Truth...There were those back in His day that went about their day and did not think they needed any help or needed Him...But those that believe in Him and what He said, believes that the world is broken and still broken because of His statement...Because He said He came for sinners, the world needs His help, if you believe in Him...Something that seems to support this fact that we need Him (if you believe in Him and what He teaches), is after two thousand years since He left us, does everyone still or ever loved their neighbor has He teaches us?...We have had many years to practice and try...I believe the world is still broke, but are we looking for a way around that Truth -instead of looking for Truth?...
If Truth and goodness fade and become of less value, what will happen?...Without truth and goodness, what is life?...Jesus says He is Truth...We need Truth...No one is good but God alone, Jesus says...And we need goodness...We need God...
