Matthew 28:16-20
The Great Commission
16 Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. 17 When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. 18 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
John 16:33
You Will Have Troubles in this World
33 “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
Matthew 6:5-15
The LORD's Prayer
5 “And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. 6 But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. 7 And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. 8 Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.
9 “This, then, is how you should pray:
“‘Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
10 your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
11 Give us today our daily bread.
12 And forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.
13 And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from the evil one.’
14 For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15 But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.
John 14:6-7
Jesus is the Way, the Truth, and the Life
6 Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. 7 If you really know me, you will know[a] my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him.”
Jesus gave His Disciples the Great Commission after His death and His resurrection...And the Commissioned Disciples did their job and set off to tell all and the world, those who would listen, of One who lived and chose them as His Original Disciples...Then He died on a cross for mankind's sins, then resurrected from His Own Death, three days later...
The Great Commission and Resurrection events are very much to be remembered as a call of action...Jesus told His Disciples that, all authority in heaven and on earth had been given to Him (and He still has this Authority)...The Original Disciples were to go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit...They were to teach others to obey everything He had taught them...And surely He would be with His Disciples always, even to the very end of the age...
Jesus death on the cross, resurrection and Great Commission were not events that would take the troubles out of this world, for in this world we will have problems and troubles...There might even be problems when you try to talk to others about Jesus...Some do not want to talk about Him...But His resurrection and Great Commission are ongoing events that commission His followers Jesus to go out and talk and meet with others who struggle with their belief or have no belief in Him...His followers are commissioned to go out and continue the quest that the original Disciples were commissioned to do...The Great Commission is a call to act, it is not a passive one...And as we read the LORD’s Prayer it is the time since He was here on earth a time that His Kingdom is not only in heaven, but His Kingdom is now here on earth...Let it now be a time when God's Will gets done on earth, like it does in heaven...Or as He says, "Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, Your kingdom come, Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven."...
God's Will being done here on earth is a difficult task for those who have a sinful nature and look to the earth and its way for happiness...God's Will can only be done by following God...It can be done by following the teachings of His Son...The Resurrection and Great Commission are not events that were completed when Jesus ascended to heaven, but are ongoing active events of our lives today, that continue Jesus' teachings...These events maybe the purpose of earthly life itself, if one believes that He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life...
