Matthew 22:34-40
The Greatest Commandment
34 Hearing that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees, the Pharisees got together. 35 One of them, an expert in the law, tested him with this question:
36 "Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?" 37 Jesus replied: " 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.' 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' 40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments."
John 14:6-7
The Way, The Truth, and The Life
6 Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. 7 If you really knew me, you would know my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him."
Our desires, feelings, and pleasures are temporary...They are here one day and gone the next...And in that vain, following Jesus is not a temporary thing...He is the same yesterday, today, and forever...If your belief in Him is only temporary then life is more of a struggle...Life is not purposeful and has little meaning...If all we do in our lives is search and care for our personal desires of the flesh and desires of this world, we will find that life has little meaning and that these things are not eternal...Our lives will become empty and minimal...
In a troubled world there is nothing that makes life more abundant the Jesus...Jesus said He came to earth to help us live an abundant life...He is this beauty in the lilies in the field that we look and think that sight is really something...It is He who satisfies you; He is the one who gives us our desires and the beauties we see around us and are attracted to...It is Jesus who provokes you with that thirst for fullness, completeness, and abundance in our lives and makes us ask is that all there is in this world...He brings the beauty out in the married couples, who find love in the smallest of things...He brings Truth and Purpose to life and stirs our heart for those things most important and most genuine thins in our lives...It is Jesus who makes us want to see that two of the most important things in life are to love God and to love neighbor...When that is accomplished in our life we live an abundant life...When this love for Him is complete, we have found this peace He gives, and we find it is a peace that this world cannot give, but a peace that can only come from Him...When that is accomplished in each of our lives there is this Great Harmony on Earth...When Jesus said to Thomas that He is the Way, and the Truth, and the Way of Life and no one comes to the Father except through Him...When we know Him, we know our Father in Heaven...I believe that those statements are True and I somehow see and believe in those words that I can believe life and everything in it is made and connected through Him and it is He who gives life Meaning and Purpose...
Our Great Pope John Paul II said something about these things when he said, "It is Jesus in fact that you seek when you dream of happiness; He is waiting for you when nothing else you find satisfies you; He is the beauty to which you are so attracted; it is He who provokes you with that thirst for fullness that will not let you settle for compromise; it is He who urges you to shed the masks of a false life; it is He who reads in your hearts your most genuine choices, the choices that others try to stifle...It is Jesus who stirs in you the desire to do something great with your lives, the will to follow an ideal, the refusal to allow yourselves to be grounded down by mediocrity, the courage to commit yourselves humbly and patiently to improving yourselves and society, making the world more human and more fraternal."...
