Matthew 1:23
23 "The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel"—which means, "God with us."
6 Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. 7 If you really know me, you will know my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him.”
John 14:11-12
Believing in Jesus
11 Believe me when I say that I am in the Father and the Father is in me; or at least believe on the evidence of the works themselves. 12 Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father.
John 10:36-38
Believing in Jesus
36 “what about the one whom the Father set apart as his very own and sent into the world? Why then do you accuse me of blasphemy because I said, ‘I am God’s Son’? 37 Do not believe me unless I do the works of my Father. 38 But if I do them, even though you do not believe me, believe the works, that you may know and understand that the Father is in me, and I in the Father.”
John 14:15:21
Jesus Promises the Holy Spirit -the Spirit of Truth
15 “If you love me, keep my commands. 16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever— 17 the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you. 18 I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you.19 Before long, the world will not see me anymore, but you will see me. Because I live, you also will live. 20 On that day you will realize that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you. 21 Whoever has my commands and keeps them is the one who loves me. The one who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love them and show myself to them.”
John 16:33
The Holy Spirit Guides Us to the Truth
33 But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come.
James 1:6
Doubts Can Rock Us Up and Down
6 But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind.
Sometimes when I read the things that St. John wrote after He met and got to know Jesus, I think of Him as not only a great writer, but also as our first Christian Psychologist (when thinking about what he wrote, more so than the other Gospel authors), and our first Great Christian Philosopher...This is because St. John learned his beliefs and truths from the very basis of Truth...He seems to have this unwavering belief in the Truth...St. John learned Truth from the Absolute Truth...His Teacher was Truth itself...St. John was an eyewitness to Truth...
Jesus stood up two thousand years ago and said He was Truth...A Man who calls Himself Truth...He also stood up and ask us to believe in Him...And if we could not believe in Him as the Son of God, then we could believe in Him because of the miracles He had done...He stated that whoever believes in Him will do the same types of things He has done and did while He was on earth...In essence, we will follow His teachings and do what He did -when and if we believe in Him...And God gives us a choice to believe in Him and His Son or not to believe in Them...
If we think about it, if Jesus wants us to believe in Him, them it very, very important that we do -after all He is the Son of God...Jesus wants to be a part of our personal belief system...Most definitions of belief systems are defined in broad terms and are about a culture, a nation, or a society...Societies over time have put together their own combination of ideas, values, and practices that tends to serve that society's cultural needs...Belief systems include all religions, as well as philosophical, ethical, and moral systems...But belief systems are also personal...Our personal belief system comes to us over a period of time, and is very much influenced by how our parents raised us, the environment we were in when we were young (where we lived growing up and how we lived growing up), and what was important to those raising us...Our belief system can and do change over time as our environment changes, our knowledge changes, and as we gain new and different experiences...And certain people we read, listen, and hear from influences our belief system...Or belief system plays a role in how we think and how we feel...So what we read, hear, and feel affects us, if we believe in it...Our personal belief system plays a major role in what we think about in life and what we do in life...
When we are young what we believe in is greatly influenced by who raised us, and how and where we were raised...The truth (when we are very young) was mostly our parent's truths or those who raised us (their) truths...As we age and mature our belief system is much affected by what we believe is true...So we tend to believe in things we know that are true...Why would anyone, believer or non-believer believe in anything else -when they get older and have matured?...Most people tend to believe in their truths...
Jesus says He is Truth...He also stated that He would ask His Father to send us the Holy Spirit, which He also calls the Spirit of Truth...The Holy Spirit is indwelt in us, and with the Holy Spirit living in us, Jesus also lives in us...When one believes in Jesus and His Father and that they are the Trinity of God the Father, Jesus, the Son of the Father, and the Holy Spirit then one can see how the Holy Spirit, is trying to guide us to the Truth and really to all Truths...But because God gives us a choice to believe or not to believe, we are only nudged along by the Holy Spirit to find Truth when we do believe...Because God gives us this free choice we can completely ignore this nudging feeling in us that is trying to guide us and lead us to the Truth, or we can follow it completely...I think those that we read about in the Bible, when they are "filled with the Holy Spirit" -they completely are letting this nudging process turn into a "complete push me and take me to where I need to go" state...
If one believes these things about Jesus being Truth, and the Holy Spirit is trying to guide us to this Truth, then God will never go away...How can He if He is somehow indwelt in us a Holy Spirit, nudging us along to the Truth and we have this soul part in us?...Those that believe that God is with us and in us, have this belief that we are to be good morally -and this feeling or belief is somehow from God...This idea, this thought, this feeling I should be good had to come from somewhere or Someone...
St. James sort of sums up things things about a believer's belief system...Believers have a steadier life, and are not thrown as much when troubles and trials come into their lives...Our belief system and what we believe can help us when the the winds are howling and we are on these rough seas of life...
