John 14:6-14
Jesus Says, I AM Truth
6 Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. 7 If you really know me, you will know my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him.” 8 Philip said, “Lord, show us the Father and that will be enough for us.”
9 Jesus answered: “Don’t you know me, Philip, even after I have been among you such a long time? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? 10 Don’t you believe that I am in the Father, and that the Father is in me? The words I say to you I do not speak on my own authority. Rather, it is the Father, living in me, who is doing his work. 11 Believe me when I say that I am in the Father and the Father is in me; or at least believe on the evidence of the works themselves. 12 Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. 13 And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14 You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.
Many people see Jesus as the Man who provides us a belief in God...Jesus teachings, His Words, and His deeds, and His miracles provide us for a foundation for both morality and a Living God...Jesus' teachings might seem to favor religious arguments for morality because Jesus never sinned and no sinful words were uttered by Him...Jesus was always helping people and He showed us that Man can be moral, albeit that He is a Perfect Man...Jesus' teachings throughout the gospel and miracles give us a connection and link with both God and morality...We know that there are, in fact, objective moral ways, and God and His Son give us reason to believe they come from the Living God...
Jesus' Words such as Him saying I AM the Way, the Truth, and the Life and no one comes to God except through Him, help me believe that He and we can support the claim and more specifically His claim, that He is Divine and His moral truths require a God and a God who exists...By Jesus saying that He is the Way, the Truth, the Life gives us a reason to believe in Absolute Truth...And this personal sense of Absolute Truth gives us reason to believe that God exists and is a Perfect Being...So Jesus telling us that only God is Good, and to be Perfect, because God is Perfect, gives one or at least the believer and agnostic, something to think about...
So Jesus' moral teachings give us a basis to why we can believe in God and that He and we need God for a good and moral world...And as we read about Jesus in the gospels, if we only look at how He lived we see a Man who is different, a Man whose life is centered around God, and His Words show us that He must be Divine and have a Special Relationship with God...That is why He tells us that anyone who has seen Him has seen the Father...If we believe that Jesus is in the Father, and that the Father is in Jesus, we can believe in this Special Relationship Jesus has with His Father...The words Jesus told His Disciples did not speak on His own authority, but rather, it is the Father's authority, living in Jesus, as He did His work, teachings, and deeds on earth...So we can believe Jesus when He said I am in the Father and the Father is in Him; or we can believe in and on the evidence of the works themselves -His miracles...Truly Jesus told us, whoever believes in Him will have a relationship with Him and the works and teachings that He did, or at least, do them the best that they/we can in the name of Jesus, while we live our lives...
