John 14:6-7
Jesus Said He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life
6 Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. 7 If you really know me, you will know my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him.”
When Jesus said that He is the Way, the Truth and the Life and the Only Way to God is through Him, why would you believe what He said?...I would say you would examine this statement (and one must examine all of His statements that He made in the gospels) the way you judge all the information you hear and receive and then believe...You believe in things and people because you think they are true and the people telling you these things are the truth...You look at what kind of person told you or wrote the information in which you believe...You look a their character...One looks at the integrity of the person to see if He is telling the Truth...You look at their past and past reputation...One might look how others view that person's character and integrity...So, one looks at a lot of things in judging what they think is true...
In Jesus’ case He never wrote a book or an article, so you must judge Him on what others wrote and said about Him...So you must first look at the four gospels and if you believe in what Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John wrote in them, then you have a starting point and a very good chance of believing in Jesus and what He said...If you only believe part of what they wrote, you may or may not believe in Jesus...If you do not believe in what any of the four gospel writers wrote, you will not believe in Jesus...So do you trust and believe that the Truth is in the written gospels?...
If you believe in the gospels and that they are true then you must ask yourself different questions...What kind of Person was Jesus?...C. S. Lewis in Mere Christianity talked about Him, and asking if Jesus with all that He did say -a Liar, a Lunatic, or our LORD?...One might ask: Why did people follow Jesus?...For instance, why did the Twelve original disciples and others just disrupt their own lives and leave what they had always done on a daily basis and now want to follow and listen and see what He was going to say or do next over a period that they had no idea would be (in the sense that they did not know if His ministry would last three years or ten years or longer)?...What did He say to make so many people believe in Him?...How did He do miracles, and how do you explain His miracles to yourself?...Why did He start with such a small following after He died, and then His followers turn into the millions and billions much later after His death?...Why does the Great Mystery that surrounds Him, really before and after His death, still somehow reach and touch the needs of man?...How do you compare Jesus to other men and other leaders of all time?...Why is He so unique when we compare Him to others?...
If you believe in Him, then you must believe that He does have another Kingdom, the Kingdom of God that He constantly talked about...He said He was from above...So if you believe in Him, then you believe in Another World, a Spiritual World, this place from above...And then there is an actual place called heaven, where He and His Father are currently residing...As other men have dreamed and thought about material things and expanding their own empires and increasing miles and miles of land through conquering countries in war and wanting other earthly things, Jesus’ dreams were about the Spiritual, and this Kingdom of Heaven still resonates today...Earthly men think of these material things, while He thought of the soul, the Spirit, and this Kingdom of God and the Kingdom of Heaven...And His Words still resonate today, two thousand years later...Why is that?...Could it be because He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life?...
