Matthew 22:36-40
The Two Great Commandments
36 “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?”
37 Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and greatest commandment.39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”
Matthew 7:12
The Golden Rule
12 So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets.
John 14:6-7
Jesus is the Way, the Truth, and the Life
6 Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. 7 If you really know me, you will know my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him.”
Two thousand years a very wise Man gave us many ancient truths...He said that all the writings of Moses and the prophets hang on two commandments...He told us that loving God and loving your neighbor as yourself is what all the Law of Moses and what the prophets wrote about if one had to sum their writings up...Jesus makes it clear in His teaching here that the Bible, and the Law and Moses and the prophets teachings are all about love...This is the overarching story of the Bible...This law of love includes loving God and loving your neighbor...The second commandment is all about loving your neighbor and treating him fairly and with love...And it is no stretch, when we see the teaching about loving your neighbor, that we can relate this very much to the Golden Rule and that we should treat our neighbors as we treat ourselves...And in almost of the major religions, the Golden Rule is a part of their religion too...And not only in the religions, but the Golden Rule is in the ancient countries, such as Egypt, Babylon, Greece, China, Rome, and India there are this concept of a reciprocity between neighbors and people -this type of Golden Rule mentioned in their old writings...
These two Great Commandments were two great truths offered to us by Jesus...There are old, very old, and yet they are as fresh and believable today, as they were when He first said them...A truth can be very old and still be the truth...An ancient truth is still a truth, even today -even in a modern society...
I think, we as modern people and living in a highly technology society, see ancient truths differently than those who lived thousands of years ago...Older societies and cultures had less daily and regular contacts with science and technology...Religion was, I think, discussed more openly and deeply because of the times...I believe this because as Jesus went around from village to village and crowds (sometimes very large crowds) followed Him teaching about the eternities and about God...And when Paul was out speaking, he seemed to draw crowds and people to listen to him preach about Jesus' teachings...Cultures and societies and countries of the past, I think, viewed their traditions and their religion more openly and thus differently...I actually believe that new technology makes us often overlook our past and puts more and more focus on the new gizmos and gadgets that are brought to us, and well as science continuing to update its field...We almost see science as a religion...But science is not a religion...And I do believe that science, for some reason, makes us more skeptical of religion and these old and ancient teachings...
An Ancient Truth is still truth today...Some people search for these ancient truths and teachings and find them sacred...There is this sacredness and holiness in the truths taught by Jesus...And as we study and learn about this Man, we can see, especially those that believe in Him, that His sacred and holy beliefs would not be touched by lies, fibs, and things of untruth...He is Truth...He is LOVE...LOVE and Truth are not associated with things like falsehood and lies...
