Reflections
Abraham’s 2018 odyssey
Not only are there types and anti-types, there are reflections of who God is and the ways of God throughout the Bible. Today we are going to show how the Bible is one big reflection of God’s salvation to us. In smallness – ourselves, in the grand scale of things - the Bible.
Sin (Sin of the soul, Sin of the flesh)
- Adam & Eve – The world and the reality of mankind were cursed by the sin.
- Gen. 6:5 – God sorry that He made man
- Noah too was included and full of sin, and then God imputed righteousness to him.
The Chosen to be saved and none other (healing of the soul)
- Gen 6:8 - Noah found grace in the eyes of God
- From that time on Noah could not help but obey. His eye and ears were opened.
- Don’t take them out of order: Noah in sin, God found Noah, Noah pleased God.
- Gen 17 - The Abrahamic Covenant
- God chooses the Jewish nation through Abraham
- Circumcision of the flesh/ circumcision of the heart, separate before God in the flesh, separate before God in the heart or spirit.
- Matt 10:5-8 – Preach to only the Jews, not the Gentiles.
- Matt 15:21-28 - “I was not sent except to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.”
- John 4:22 - … salvation is of the Jews.
- Amos 3:2 - You only have I known of all the families of the earth
- PS. 147:19-20 - He declares His word to Jacob, His statutes and His judgments to Israel. He has not dealt thus with any nation; And as for His judgments, they have not known them.
- Eph 2:11-13 - Therefore remember that you, once Gentiles… that at that time you were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope and without God in the world.
Now Gentiles are to be saved! (Healing the rest of the body)
- Matt. 28:19 – Make disciples of all nations
- Acts 8:26-40 – Ethiopian (not Jewish) saved evident by his baptism.
- Acts 10:28 – “…I should not call any man common or unclean.”
- Acts 10:34-35 – “In truth I perceive that God shows no partiality…” At this time Peter says.
- Acts 10:45 – “… the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out on the Gentiles also.”
- . Acts 12:21-23 - Herod did not give glory to God. And he was eaten by worms and died.
- God put Herod in rule
- Herod allowed the people to worship him and not the one true God.
- Herod made himself mighty.
- Anyone disrupting God’s order of things (His picture, His ways) God takes care of with prejudice.
- Today people are dying of worms: “Monsters Inside Me,” on Animal Planet which begins a six-week run on Wednesday night, tells real stories of parasitic infection. Worms included!
