Deuteronomy 5-11
- God has delivered us already from the penalty of sin (past)
- He is in the process of delivering us from the power of sin. (present)
- He will deliver us from the presence of sin. (future)
Chap. 6
Subject of parenting, by Chuck Swindol,
“We have two primary jobs as parents:
- Raising our children carefully, (Ex 6:7)
- Releasing them completely.”
Three points for gaining a relationship with God.
- v.5) Love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength.
- Model this for your self and for your children, not just telling them about it.
- v.6) Not only model it, but to live it. Need to exhibit it, from the inside. How we handle difficult situations, problems. Children need to see our faith in action.
- v.7) Teach the children about what we are doing.
- Them them to memorize scripture
- To worship, to pray,
- Faith in action by forgiving another peer.
- Monitoring them by what they watch, what they listen to, what the read, who they hang around with.
- Teach why certain situations, things, even being with certain people are bad, and why certain things are good.
Chap 7
You want separation, but not isolation. We are not to isolate ourselves from the world or non-believers, because God has called us to be salt and light to the world (Matt. 5)
Contact without contamination. Separation without Isolation. Like a boat in the water. We are not to be the water, but like a boat in the water. Not to take water on board, else it would sink the ship.
God has called us to be witnesses, but not weird. (don't whip the Easter Bunny!)
Chap. 8
v.14) when your heart is lifted up, and you forget the LORD your God who brought you out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage; (Ital. Mine) Here God describes a house, a house of bondage. Typifying our souls live in houses, this body. A house is something you live in, you have ownership. A jail cell is something you are put in, something you don't own. This is more accurate than my description of jail cell.
Chap. 10
What the Lord required of the Israelites and what He requires of us today.
FLOW
- F – Faith, trusting God, believing in His promises, allowing Him to lead us.
- L – Love, love the Lord supremely.
- O – Obedience, do what God calls us to do, and stay away from things God calls us to stay away from.
- W – Worship the Lord. Worship him only. No images, no idols. Not only with our lips, but also with our lives.
