- John 17
King James Three Version (KJ3)
- Jesus Prays for Himself (v. 1-5)
- Jesus spoke these things == He just did not say it in his heart, He said the words aloud. Because spoken words out loud transcends the spirit world not only the physical.
- and lifted up His eyes to Heaven, == Speaking to a person who is not here but up there some where. Signifying there is no one here on earth we should be praying too.
- Father, the hour has come == The relationship is now disclosed as the “Father”
- Glorify Your Son, that Your Son may also glorify You, 2 Even as You gave to Him authority over all flesh, so that to all which You gave to Him, He may give to them everlasting life. ==1)He now speaks as third person as not to allow a hint of pride to take a foot hold, 2)To take focus and subject off of self, but to place focus on the task at hand. To glorify the trinity. 3)The Father gives authority to the Son over all flesh. Not Spirits, not objects in space, but human flesh. 4) Speaking about those in flesh, that were given to the Son, the elected ones. 5)Those ones that are given to the Son, may have everlasting life offered to them. They don't have to ask for it like others do, to obtain salvation. (But once offered do these elect have favor to be asked again once they have rejected the Lamb the first time?) 6)One worship song puts it this way - “Your name will shine for all to see, You are the one, you are my glory; Glory in the Highest...”
- 3 And this is everlasting life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, the One whom You sent. == 1) Everlasting life is so important, that is needs to be defined. 2)That those elect may know the one and only Father God. 3)And those elect may know the Son, Jesus of Nazareth.
- 4 I have glorified You on the earth. finishing the work that You have given to Me, that I should do. == 1)Re-recording with words that are said, the glorifying the Father with the work of Christ. 2)The work is now finished. 3)The father gave and authorized this work to Jesus.
- 5 And now Father, glorify Me with Yourself, with the glory which I had with You before the world was to be. == Request that the relational communion be put back in it's proper place. Like a marriage. To have glory is to be side by side with the Father, to be side by side with the Son, to be side by side with the Spirit. All this time the Holy Spirit is ministering with the Son.
