We are fortunate to have pro bono legal representation from both entities below!Â
Through a grant program, we were granted pro bono legal rep from LASC + their corporate partners. They can refer out to big law firms for anything they can't handle. They cannot help as easily with media liability stuff (they searched and the bigger firms in their network don't seem to do that), but that's okay, becaude we can utilize Lawyers for Reporters for that.
They are reviewing our contracts and confidentiality agreement for volunteers.
Contact was Tabitha Woodruff, but she got a new job elsewhere, new contacts:
dparker@columbuslegalaid.org and pbryson@columbuslegalaid.org
We signed an agreement with them in summer 2022
These are heavy hitters - David, who we are primarily working with - is also an attorney for The Intercept. They have agreed to help us with several things:
Contracts - they are reviewing our contributor contract
Pre-Publication Review - they offered to review all of our pieces to inform us of the risks
Litigation - currently, they are looking at our situation with the city and will represent us if they feel there is a case
Risk aversion - for example, over 4th of July weekend David responded about a situation in which we needed to separate with a freelancer over some offensive comments.
