We use a combination of systems to track our analytics and we want to refine our infrastructure. We wish to create a dashboard to better track and make meaning of our various analytics.
See this page for more detail on systems
Google Analytics (pulls in lots of info such as web, social traffic)
Salesforce (CRM)
Aplos (bookkeeping)
Mailchimp (our email campaign data)
Stripe
How to pull donor/donation report:
Go to "payments" tab
"all payments"
"Export" button
choose date range
choose all fields
note: how to tell if donation is one-time or recurring: one-time "description" column says "Matter News", monthly donations that field is blank
Our volunteer Jonathan is working on a dashboard for us that will ultimately bring together audience, revenue, and other analytics.
Our new dashboard from a template: https://datastudio.google.com/s/kNXeaoYbEjI

The dashboard we had created and used in the past, but haven’t kept up with
We want to create unique links to track where donations come from the following sources:
join button (website)
donate button (website)
FindYourNews.Org
+note that we can make a unique link for each of these platforms for a specific campaign. For example, for NewsMatch21.
The Hub’s checkout app allows you to track donations using Salesforce campaigns. This is handy because then you can see how much your campaigns and other calls to action are worth in dollar terms.
To create a campaign ID:
Go to Salesforce
Click the Campaigns menu
Click the New button
Choose the type of campaign (if nothing quite fits, choose the best fit)
Enter a campaign name. Be descriptive. For example…
Instead of “Website” consider something like “Website header button”
Instead of “Popup” consider something like “April Coronavirus popup”
Instead of “End of year campaign” consider something like “2021 end of year campaign email #3 (non-donors)”
Complete the rest of the form. Be sure to mark it “Active”.
You can also choose a “Type”, change the status to “In progress”, and enter a start date.
If you plan to create several SF campaigns as part of a larger effort, consider creating a Parent Campaign first, like “End of year campaign 2020.” Then, when you create subsequent campaigns, add “End of year campaign 2020” in the Parent Campaigns…” field.
Click Save
A new page will load. Get the campaign ID from the url. It will look like a string of characters:
Copy that string and attach it to your donation url along with the &campaign= parameter. Example: https://checkout.fundjournalism.org/memberform?org_id=matternews&campaign=7015f000000MDtzAAG
You’re all set to start fundraising using this campaign.
See our master financial data here -- I am working on a better workflow and way of keeping this constantly up-to-date
