At Matter, we get folks from a variety of backgrounds who want to contribute reporting. And while having that variety creates more diversity in perspectives on the team, it can also create gaps in what our reporters know, understand and can do.
To close those gaps, Matter editors have created a list of trainings to equip anyone with the tools necessary to do the kind of reporting work we do.
All of the trainings are available through Poynter Institute, a nonprofit focused on educating and providing resources to journalists.
To access the trainings, go to the website below and use the login information listed. After you've logged in, you'll see "Matter News" in the top right with a dropdown menu. Click on "My Courses." That will show all of the courses listed below.

Journalism Fundamentals: Craft & Values (1 - 2 hours)
Ethics of Journalism (2 - 3 hours)
Avoiding Plagiarism and Fabrication (2 -3 hours)
The Interview (1 hour)
Cleaning your copy: Grammar, style and more (4 hours)

The courses below are not required, but strongly encouraged. Click on the topic to see the list of courses for that topic.
