Once you have talked to the blog manager about your piece, you can go ahead and draft it. There is no length requirement, but they are generally short (5-10 paragraphs).
Consult with the blog manager if you have questions or need assistance.
Create a new Google Doc in this folder for your draft
Email or message the blog editor letting them know the draft is ready
Once the editor gets back to you about the edits being ready, go into your blog document and make the suggested edits.
Let the blog editor know if you have any questions, are unsure of anything, or want to schedule a phone chat to discuss.
If you do not have a Medium account, you’ll need to create one for free by clicking “Get Started”
Let the blog manager know if there is any issue with your creating an account
Create an Account
We recommend signing up with Google or Facebook. You can sign up with email too.
Be aware that you will not be able to log in with your email address, they will send you a magic link to your email each time you go to sign in (annoying). So, I prefer to login via my Google/social media to make logging in easier.
Create your Profile
Go to the menu in the top right hand corner and choose “profile”, and then click “edit profile”
Add a profile picture (something close up that shows your face - like a headshot, but doesn’t have to be super serious)
Add a small bio about yourself
Publish your Story
In the top right hand menu, click the option “new story”
You’ll fill out the title and body of it
At the top, there’s a button menu with 3 dots. Do the following things from there:
Click “change featured image” and upload an image that goes well with your story.
if you don't see that - simply click on an image in the story and hit "shift+f" once it is selected
Click “change tags” and add tags relevant to your story
Click “add story to publication” and you should see GMM’s UnBreaking News as an option.
If so, check it
If not, let the blog manager know
Now, you can hit the green “publish” button
4. Let the blog manager know it's been published
Go in to tags and “more settings” to optimize for SEO, etc.
Ensure the blog post is promoted via social media, newsletters, etc.
Please post about your blog on your social media and email/otherwise send it to friends you think would enjoy it.
