Personal accounts vs. Matter
Most of the time comment from your personal account, but can be under Matter if it makes sense
If it’s City of Columbus or big/public or trending hashtag, then can do Matter
Be aware of your tone, voice and language. Reread comments before posting.
This would entail you logging into our IG (and maybe even Twitter) and following people who follow a targeted list of orgs that have overlapping audiences. It's important to consider accounts not only with overlapping audiences, but also ones that have good interaction and don't have a high degree of ghost followers.

It is ideal to periodically go through our recent social followers and DM them a welcome message. During a campaign such as NewsMatch, we can just email ALL followers. But it's ideal to ensure new followers are sent this message ongoing.

Hi and thank you for following us! My name is [name] and I’m a [volunteer/board member] at Matter News. I want to introduce us and to ask you to support our mission.
The biggest way you can support our work is via a donation (link below) because we are a tiny startup nonprofit and we are in need of more community support to keep up the good work.
We are Columbus' only news nonprofit founded by millennial LGBTQ women with a diverse board and set of contributors. We aim to equip you to be more involved in your community by taking deep dives into issues affecting locals, publishing multimedia content to illuminate problems and solutions. Our 2 long-term investigations are into policing and development issues and you can find our content at matternews.org and on our social platforms.
Your donation ensures the news stays free for those who can't afford it. Whether you are able to support with a donation or not, we really appreciate you sharing our mission and content with the people in your life.

The above method can also be applied to people who have commented or shared our posts, or DM'd us, as it is a good idea to engage those who are already engaging with us.

Ideas
T Shirt Giveaway - we def have some t shirts we can give away! Not a ton, but we can spare a few.
Photo spots/hashtag - “follow matter to be entered, tag a friend" - great idea!
Scavenger Hunt - love this idea! If you're up for developing it. I think Jaelynn has had some ideas around this and we sorta did one once, so if you do wanna pursue this, we should ping her.
Raffle or other contests - https://gleam.io/ - MadLab tickets were a great example of a raffle gift people really liked! If we can lock down some prizes that could be cool.
We are looking into starting a Facebook group, possibly co-hosted by CNAV in order to foster discussions around our Matter(s)
For now, it is casual, but we possibly want to explore doing more outreach (editorial/marketing/engagement) via these.
They can be added to editorial engagement lists\
On Twitter, we can have keywords geomonitored and feed into Slack.
So, for example, if someone around Columbus mentions “affordable housing” or “development”, we could have that feed into a Slack channel. What terms do we think would be best?
List of terms for DevelopUS:
Affordable housing
Gentrification
Evictions
Homelessness
Development
Area Commission
Zoning
Neighborhoods
Transportation
Housing
Displacement
Short North
Franklinton
Flipping
Real estate
South Side
Tax Abatement
Tax Breaks
