ABILITY:
Players who die due to another character's ability appear alive. Once per game*, at night, you may make yourself drunk from now on.
STORYTELLER NOTES:
Remember that characters who are dead do not have an ability. Do not wake "dead" players during the Night Phase, nor give information to "dead" players who would gain information during the day.
Remember that the usual practice of not waking poisoned or drunk players is a "rule" you can break with the Embalmer. Poisoned or drunk players who do not wake may think they are dead - but remember that unless a Professor or other reviving role is in play, should the Embalmer ever make themselves drunk or die, they will know this has happened.
If any abilities would cause deaths during the day like the Cerenovus, Psychopath or Golem, don't hint that they may have happened, as this reveals an Embalmer is definitely in play!
When the Embalmer is drunk, they are drunk from that point on.
If any death would cause the game to end, this still happens.
The Embalmer suspends players in undeath, leaving uncertainty about who is alive and who is not.
Playing as the Embalmer
The Barrow-Fog returns - now in Minion form!
As the Embalmer, players who die for reasons other than execution register as alive, blurring the line between life and death, and making the game state uncertain - but the evil team knows exactly what is going on... usually.
If you find an opportune moment to make yourself drunk, be it to frame a specific player who has been saddled with accusations of being the Embalmer, or to frame a specific world where an Embalmer has been made drunk or taken out of play, the big reveal will come with a cost in the form of a swathe of night deaths, sure, but may just secure you enough social credit to coast for the remainder of the game. Be judicious with your ability, and know when to take yourself out of play.
Remember that players who die at night will lose their ability, so don't claim to wake with information if you're suggesting you may have died.
Example
Tania is the Embalmer. Her Demon, the Po, kills 3 people on Night 5, and the Godfather kills on the same night. Tania makes herself drunk, resulting in 6 players suddenly being shown as dead the next morning. Tania claims to be the Engineer who has taken the Embalmer out of play!
Fighting the Embalmer
Ongoing information roles tend to be more difficult kills in Embalmer games. Given that you wake each night, you'll know exactly when you have died, because you won't wake anymore. On the flipside, "spent" roles, first night roles, or roles with passive abilities are much harder to track, which will cause lots of uncertainty as to the game state. Track when you lose your information, if ever, reverse-engineer the kills from there, and use that information in addition to what you've received thus far to sniff out the Embalmer and reveal the game state - permanently.
Example
Benjamin is the Dentist. The Chef nominates the Virgin, but nothing happens. Benjamin checks the Chef that night and learns a yes, indicating that they likely died to the Virgin, confirming the Embalmer is in play.
Jinxes
Lycanthrope: The Lycanthrope may choose any player, living or dead, as part of its ability. If they choose a dead player, their kill fails.
Professor: The Professor may choose any player, living or dead, as part of its ability.
Virgin: If the Virgin's ability would execute a Townsfolk, this is not announced and the day does not end.
Boomdandy: If the Boomdandy is executed, the Embalmer is immediately drunk.
Cerenovus: If the Cerenovus' ability would execute a player, this is not announced and the day does not end.
