身をあさく思、世をふかく思ふ.
ABILITY:
On your first night, learn a player. If the Demon kills them, the 1st time you die, you don't, and your vote counts as 2 votes, even if dead.
STORYTELLER NOTES:
Remember that unlike the Banshee, the Ronin still spends their dead vote as normal. Balance the Ronin's effect around the relative 'strength' of the learned player: if evil is in a strong position from the start of the game, the Ronin might learn a character unlikely to die to the Demon, and vice versa.
In a Vortox game, or if the Ronin is poisoned, the Ronin must - or might - learn a different player to the one you mark.
Please note that due to constraints with reminder tokens, the Ronin must be loaded in with the Ronin Tokens fabled in order to function.
The Ronin gains power when their charge has been slain.
Playing as the Ronin
Protect your learned player at all costs... during the day! When it's the Demon's time to act, if your learned player dies to the Demon, you now have the ability to turn nominations on their head. As far as when to use your ability: consider hiding until late-game when you will have the most impact. But, if you choose to use your ability as soon as it's available, don't fret - your extra life means the evil team will have to waste resources on killing you.
Example
Lili is the Ronin. They learn Jake - the Librarian - on Night 1. On Night 4, Jake is killed by the Demon: Lili gains their ability from then on.
Bluffing as the Ronin
Your charge is the basis of your ability, so keeping them alive during the day is key. As such, you can tie yourself to a player that you want - or need - to protect, such as a Minion or Demon. And if that player is, for instance, a star-passing Imp, or a Fang Gu that jumps to an Outsider, you can always claim to be poisoned in some fashion, hence why your ability isn't firing... or, alternatively, on a night of two kills, imply that a Godfather or Assassin did the job instead. It's risky, but it can certainly be done.
Example
Mike is the Assassin bluffing as the Ronin. Their "charge" is the Fang Gu. The Fang Gu signals that they will jump on Night 3. Mike kills the Monk, resulting in two deaths overnight. It is implied that because Mike does not have two votes from now on, the Fang Gu was killed by other means, and the Monk was killed by the Demon.
