Alas, my wounds are mortal. With my dying breath, I cast thee out!
ABILITY:
The first Townsfolk you speak to privately becomes a not-in-play Outsider if you die. If you die without speaking to a Townsfolk, or if all Outsiders are in play, another player might die that night.
STORYTELLER NOTES:
Make sure you mark the Blasphemer’s first conversation with a Townsfolk, and keep that reminder token in play until the Blasphemer’s death. Remember that the Blasphemer’s ability doesn’t affect Outsiders, Minions or Demons.
The Blasphemer turns a welcome Townsfolk to a reviled Outsider, but might discover hidden evil in the process.
Playing as the Blasphemer
You know how your ability operates, and so there is a valid fear that you may turn a valuable Townsfolk into a potentially detrimental Outsider when you die. As such, track your conversations and warn whoever you speak to from the outset of the game that they are now burdened with your ability. Of course, the upside is that if the player you warn doesn’t turn into an Outsider, but someone reports being turned instead, you can be reasonably assured that your first conversation was with an evil player, or a Drunk! Though you’ve negatively impacted your team, you now have a piece of valuable information that will help solve the game.
Given your unique situation, you may choose to only interact with confirmed Outsiders, or people who are willing to risk being turned. The obvious downside is that your information will be (mostly) second hand, and it will be difficult to gain an understanding in the same way that other players might, but at the same time, you help to confirm those players upon your death. If possible, you may also want to consider killing the Blasphemer on a day when their ability is misfiring: if you discover that they are poisoned or drunk in some way, whether by a Minstrel, Courtier, or Minion ability, take that opportunity to safely dispatch the Blasphemer. Of course, there is also the option of simply not engaging in any private conversations, but that carries its own downside: how you choose to play the Blasphemer, then, is up to you.
Example
Gul is the Blasphemer. He speaks with two players on the first day. The second player Gul speaks to, upon their death, turns into the Saint. The first player that Gul spoke to is the Drunk or evil.
Bluffing as the Banker
If you have a Pit Hag, consider changing a Townsfolk into an Outsider when a high-value Townsfolk dies. This may cast doubt on that player’s information, and may also help to steer people away from believing that a Pit Hag is in play. Additionally, if you know the Outsider count is high, turning someone into the Blasphemer ensures an additional death at night.
If you choose to play as the Blasphemer yourself, consider "outing" to someone trustworthy and let them know of your situation. This may make town reluctant to kill you, lest they lose access to a powerful Townsfolk role, and may also give your team information about precisely who you’ve chosen to target. You can also claim, perhaps, that your Demon will be transformed into an Outsider, which may carry its own negatives.
Example
Ben is the Godfather claiming to be the Blasphemer. He speaks with his Demon on Day 1, and later claims, upon his execution, that the Demon has become the Plague Doctor.
