Uh oh. Sorry. Uh ohhhhh. Sorryyyyy.
ABILITY:
If a non-Demon ability would target you, it might target a living neighbour instead. If targeted 3 times, lose your ability & die at night.
STORYTELLER NOTES:
This is an Outsider ability, and thus should be harmful to town. Only bounce abilities should it be beneficial to the evil team - though you can always temper the potency of this effect by targeting the Oaf instead. This is a useful tool if evil is doing particularly well. You may also do this if doing otherwise would risk confirmation of other players.
The Oaf's clumsy nature causes misinformation to spread, and might one day kill them.
Playing as the Oaf
Let your neighbours know they're in for a rough ride! As the Oaf, you are liable to have abilities bounce off you, meaning that there is a possibility for errant information to spread from Fortune Tellers, Dreamers, or even Minions. The only upside is that once targeted enough, the Oaf simply can't take it anymore and dies in the night. This may serve as some measure of confirmation, but unfortunately you've accelerated the game, and not in a good way.
You can engineer your ability such that by learning about your neighbours, you can ask Townsfolk to target you with their abilities, burning up your own ability and ensuring that information is (reasonably) reliable. No guarantees, of course.
You also have the benefit of being a fairly confirmable Outsider: there aren’t many ways you can cause an extra death at night, but of course, if you’ve been too public about your role, you can always be targeted and killed in the same night - so be judicious with who you tell.
And if a Gambler ever asks to pick you in the night, or if a Golem asks to nominate you, or if a Moonchild wants to point at you… no thanks.
Example
Tom is the Oaf. He is targeted by the Fortune Teller along with another player, and it bounces to a neighbour: the Red Herring. The same night, Tom is targeted by the Cerenovus, causing Tom's other neighbour to be made mad. The night after, Tom is chosen by the Monk: the Monk protection does not bounce, but Tom dies anyway.
Bluffing as the Oaf
As with a role like the Tinker, bluffing as the Oaf is easy, right up until it’s not. People will begin to question why you are still alive, especially if you’ve been targeted by multiple abilities, but if you’re a Minion who can afford to be caught out, this isn’t so bad - but planning your escape route ensures the information you’ve “corrupted” remains relevant to your neighbours instead. Consider covering your tracks with other Minions like the Godfather or Assassin, or Demons like the Polterghast or Zombuul!
Unlike the Tinker who can die at any time per the Storyteller’s discretion, there is a hard cap on how many times an Oaf can impact the game before they’re spent, so keep track of who is targeting you, and do your best to frame your neighbours that way.
If you think an Oaf is in play, why not kill them early on a night when you have a second kill to spare? Doing so will imply that the Oaf has bounced far more than previously believed, causing other players to doubt their information if nearby.
Example
Bert is the Imp bluffing as the Oaf. On a night after an Outsider was executed, they pass to their Scarlet Woman, and the Godfather kills another player.
