ABILITY:
Each night*, choose a character. You learn if they are dead.
STORYTELLER NOTES:
If a character is not in play, the answer is "no". If multiples of a character exist, such as a Village Idiot, Lost Lover, or Fang Gu (in the event of a jump), the answer should be "yes", even if others of that character are alive.
The Dentist learns which characters are dead or alive.
Playing as the Dentist
Your power comes not just from confirming the claimed roles of dead players, as an Undertaker might - you can also confirm when certain Demons may have "jumped" in the night. Consider who has been executed, or players who have previously died at night, and the roles they have been claiming: if you sense there's a disparity between what a player is claiming and the information you've received, it's possible that you've found an evil player claiming a Demon bluff. But tread lightly, as your role is a powerful one, and the evil team will be looking to neutralise you sooner rather than later.
Example
Zak is the Dentist who has received a claim stating that a player recently killed in the night was the Sage. Zak chooses the Sage the next night and learns that they are not dead, meaning that if their information is true, Zak knows that their information is false, and likely in support of evil.
Bluffing as the Dentist
As an evil player bluffing as the Dentist, it's up to you to sell worlds. If your Fang Gu has jumped, tell town that the role they were claiming has been seen as dead, to ensure you cover their tracks. Or perhaps you may want to discredit powerful information by noting that you've seen that role as alive, despite the fact that a good player is claiming to have died as that character. If they are, for instance, a Ravenkeeper who has seen an evil player as their role, you can always turn around the next day and say you checked the Ravenkeeper and received a "no". Doing so will help to keep suspicion off your Demon, and frame other player as necessary.
Example
Minnie is a Minion bluffing Dentist in a No Dashii game. They claim to have checked the Fang Gu and received a "yes". This in turn frames living Outsiders, and implies that one of the poisoned players might be a Drunk who was jumped to by the Fang Gu.
