Fie, fie I say! Back to whence you came, foul minion!
ABILITY:
Each night, choose a player. The first Minion ability that targets this player targets that Minion instead. A Minion, if chosen, learns you are 1 of 2 players.
STORYTELLER NOTES:
You can moderate the Thaumaturge’s impact on the game by who you provide in the ping if a Minion is successfully bounced. If the Thaumaturge’s team needs some assistance, consider framing the same two people frequently, and if evil team is doing poorly, spreading around the wrong ping will help pin down the source.
The Thaumaturge can turn a Minion's powers back against them.
Playing as the Thaumaturge
Finding prime targets for Minion abilities will enable you to get the best value out of your role. As characters like the Monk protect certain characters from the Demon, your job is to protect characters from the Minion, with the bonus that a “bounced” ability will cause interesting, unintended consequences. And, of course, if no good targets present themselves, you can always target yourself. Once your ability is triggered, the evil team will be on your trail, and the chance of being found out increases, so get as much value out of your ability as possible.
Example
Steven is the Thaumaturge who chooses the Cannibal. The Cerenovus also chooses the Cannibal at night, making themselves mad in the process. The Cerenovus learns that Steven and one other player is the Thaumaturge.
Bluffing as the Thaumaturge
If you’re a Minion that has an ability that targets other players, you can bluff as the Thaumaturge to frame other players: pick unusual targets to simulate a bounce, and claim you targeted other, more obvious targets. Keep in mind, of course, that if the player you frame is executed, you’ll need to figure out a way forward with your ability still intact - but if you’re expendable, consider requesting that your Demon take you out of play to sell the lie.
Example
Amy is the Godfather bluffing as the Thaumaturge. They kill the Sage at night, claiming to have selected the Devil's Advocate. Despite further Outsider deaths at night, there are no extra night deaths. Amy suggests that the Sage may have been the Godfather whose kill bounced via the Thaumaturge's ability.
Jinxes
Assassin: The Assassin is unaffected by the Thaumaturge's ability, but still learns the two players that might be the Thaumaturge.
