This course includes a study of the methods of summarizing and interpreting data, elementary probability, and its relation to distributions. The meanings, importance, and applications of the normal and binomial distributions as well as the methods of random sampling, testing of hypotheses, analysis of paired data, and interpretation of standardized test scores are covered. Students will need to have a TI 83 or TI 84 calculator, or comparable.
Objectives: This course introduces some of the basic concepts and techniques of statistical inference. Its purpose is to develop an appreciation for, and some understanding of, the statistical approach to many types of problems faced by the administrator, the research worker, and other members of our society Throughout the course we will discuss how these objectives fit into the College’s and School’s mission and goals. College credit is available upon successful completion.
