Advanced Chemistry is an upper level class for those planning to major in the sciences. The student taking the class should have a minimum of a B in regular chemistry and have completed a basic algebra class as there is a great deal of math involved. The first 9 weeks involves a quick review of junior chemistry. The rest of the year is spent on redox reactions, reaction rates and chemical equilibrium, acids, bases and salts, titration, energy and disorder. Electrolytes, nuclear chemistry and some basic organic chemistry will be covered at the end of the second semester. The students will do more complex labs than in basic chemistry. Due to the difficulty of the class all tests are scaled. The class uses a college text as part of the curriculum and covers the first semester of a freshman college chemistry class.
