English 101: Intro to Composition

This course is a study of the principles of clear and effective expression as applied to the sentence, paragraph, and the whole composition. It includes a review of grammar, mechanics, and correct usages, as well as training in organization and the writing of short and long papers. The course is also designed to develop the skills that enable students to interpret and analyze published texts. It also supports the English Department’s goals of fostering critical thinking and reading skills and the clear expression of ideas.

Prerequisites: Students must have either scored in the 230’s on MAPS testing in Reading and Language, or maintained a minimum of a 90% grade point average in their most recent English Language Arts course in order to enroll in this class.
