LIFETIME SPORTS AND FITNESS

Prerequisite: none Grades: 9,10,11,12Credits: 10Credit Type: Graduation Requirement for PE or ElectiveOffered: Year Long Course

Students in this co-ed class will have the opportunity to further skills and increase their sport(s) knowledge in lifetime sports, as well as improve their fitness level with strength and conditioning training. Emphasis placed on individual sports and, depending on the number enrolled, the opportunity for team sports participation. Some of the activities offered, yet not limited to, are archery, horseshoes, slow-pitch softball, Frisbee golf, racquet sports (Pickleball, Badminton, Ping Pong, etc.), and recreational games. Strength and conditioning training is two days per week. This class offers exposure to sports, which can be practiced regardless of skill, physical strength or gender. In addition, it helps the student improve his/her physical and mental health, as well as provide friendship and companionship in shared sports and leisure activities, which helps to buffer life’s stress. Students can take either lifetime fitness or weights.

Basic Objectives:

- Has learned skills necessary to perform a variety of physical activities.

- Is physically fit.

- Participates regularly in physical activity.

- Gain knowledge and participate in beginner and intermediate strength training, power development, and speed development exercises.

- Values physical activity and its contribution to a healthy lifestyle.
