HIGH SCHOOL BAND

Prerequisite: Demonstrate proficiency on a band instrument Grades: 9,10,11,12Credits: 10Credit Type: ElectiveOffered: Year Long Course

Anyone in grades 9-12 may join High School Band by demonstrating proficiency on a band instrument. Lessons will be arranged for those wishing to learn to play an instrument.

Senior High Band is a performance based class with the majority of class time spent rehearsing for performances. Jazz Band is an ensemble selected by audition.

Each band member is considered a member of the Pep Band and is expected to play at home sporting events when not participating in the sport.

Pep band for all home games:

  • football (fall)

  • volleyball (fall)

  • basketball (winter)

Concerts:

  • Fall (October)

  • Christmas (December)

  • Spring (March)

  • POPS (May)

Contests:

  • MUDECUS (March)

  • District Music Contest (April)

Community Performances

  • Veteran's Day in Plymouth (November)

  • Memorial Day in De Witt (May)

In addition, each student will learn about music theory, music appreciation, and music history. Chamber ensembles such as Woodwind Choir, Brass Choir, Percussion Ensemble, and Solos will be organized as interest and scheduling will permit. Each member will have the opportunity to audition for Honor Bands including the Pioneer Conference Honor Band. A yearly fee of $10.00 is used to clean uniforms.
