Physical Science is a required course that all freshmen must complete. It is a full year course that introduces the students to basic physics and chemistry. The first semester is an introduction to physics. Students will be required to use basic algebra skills as they will study Newton’s Laws of Motion and momentum. They will be introduced to the transfer of heat energy and some basic thermal energy principles, the conservation of mass/energy concepts and the electromagnetic spectrum. The second semester is an introduction to the study of matter (chemistry) and will include the study of the periodic chart, naming and writing chemical formulas along with simple equation balancing. It will include exothermic and endothermic reactions and the study of chemical and physical changes. The second semester also brings an emphasis in the 3D sciences, allowing kids to ask questions and explore the concepts introduced.
