INTRO TO ENGINEERING / INTRO TO BUILT ENVIRONMENT

First Semester - This course consists of basic fundamentals of mechanical drawing. In mechanical drawing the student will learn how the men who design buildings and machinery use lines and figures instead of words. Areas to be covered are: Lettering, use of drawing instruments, geometric construction, three view orthographic, working drawings, and occupational information. Students will be required to do a certain number of drawing projects set up by the instructor. At this level of technology drawing, there will be an introduction to the basic computer aided drafting (CAD). Drawings will be completed to reflect skills learned.

Second Semester - This course will provide instruction in the fundamentals of woodworking. Hand and power tools will be used in the construction of a project of the student’s choice with instructor’s approval. Areas covered will consist of characteristic assembling and finishing. Shop projects will account for 50% of the grade, tests and quizzes will comprise 25% of the grade, and work habits and attitude toward safety will account for 25% of the grade.
