ELA 8

Language Arts 8 emphasizes composition, particularly descriptive, appropriate use of language, and literature. Grammar, mechanics, and spelling are taught directly and within the context of literature and writing. Nebraska Standards of Reading and Writing are taught, reviewed, and assessed.

Short stories, poetry, and drama appropriate for eighth grade level provide a variety of literature activities. Class novels may be used as well.

Specific skills include:

• learn and apply writing skills and strategies to communicate.
• develop and apply appropriate speaking and listening skills and strategies to communicate for a variety of purposes.
