EMT Certification Course

This course is designed and based on the Department of Transportation's National Highway Safety Administrations Emergency Medical Technician National Education Standards for teaching basic emergency medical care and transportation of critical and emergent patients who access the emergency medical system. This course focuses on the basic knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and transportation is an emergency situation providing the link between the emergency scene to the emergency health care system. Students learn to perform interventions with the basic equipment typically found on an ambulance.

This course is taught by a State licensed Emergency Medical Services Instructor. Students must complete course and successfully complete the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technician's certification examination in order to apply for a State EMT license. Students must have reached the age of 18 in order to sit for the exam. A cooperating Nebraska endorsed teacher must collaborate with this course if the EMS instructor does not have a postsecondary dual-credit or a career education teaching permit. This course may be available for dual credit at a postsecondary institution.
