Mates For A Cold Life

4x6 inch

For my second project of my mini Si I wanted to keep the same medium because I have a bit of glass and I don't want it to go to waste and just not use it so I do believe that i'm going to be using glass across all three projects. I wanted to do an arctic scene,m and the best arctic bird out there is the penguin. Much like humans penguins strive for LOVE but they look for mates for life, so they never leave each other, and penguins are just so cute and amazing even if they can't fly, but they can swim which is why I added a little piece of water that is opened next to the broken part of the ice leading out to the ocean, and when snow freezes it creates a little ice sheet over the top of it which looks and feels like glass.

I used lots of fusing glass melting coefficient of 96 on a 4X6 inch clear glass plate and elmers glue (because gel super glue is not compatible with glass fusing)  :(

I had some problems with my first project because the type of glue I used gel super glue is not compatible with glass fusing and hot temperatures in the kiln, but elmers glue is, so I started using that and it works great, before I fused it, I noticed some parts of the sharpie marker lins still on the glass in parts of the cracks but they were gone after I fired it.  Something that I would change is how long we put it in the kiln for because a "tac fuse" isn't enough time but a "full fuse" seems to be too much because of how much it melted, i also think that maybe because it has a 96 coe it may melt more, and to change that I would have to shorten the time that it is in the kiln or turn down the temperature.

After this fused most of the sharper shapes that define the different parts of my project and the subjects kind of melted together and got deformed so I think I am going to continue working on this project and painting on top of the glass to add more colors and re- define the correct shapes that I wanted.
