Artist Statement
For this project we made two value scales with spheres using charcoal and ink. Next, we chose a picture from our photos, print it out, grid it, and drew it using ink and charcoal. We used black and white charcoal and ink. We were supposed to use a variety of values to create contrast. I also used lines to create texture in the fur. This picture was of my cat who passed away. I enjoyed making a piece to remember her. My challenges were the background because the values were so similar, and it was hard to make the floor and wall different. Another challenge was that doing the individual fur took a really long time, but I think it pulled everything together.
