Artist Statement

For this project we created a piece of art meant for the Junior Duck Stamp contest. Our guidelines for this project were that the duck in our art must be native to North America, the paper must be 9" x 12", and the piece must be flat. Other than that, the materials we used were up to us.

For my project, I chose to do a wood duck. To make the piece I used many mixtures of acrylic and gouache paints in order to get the many shades present in my duck. I also used many different paint brushes to get specific details in the painting.

I chose to do a female wood duck because I though her colorful wing would be fun to paint, and it was. And I decided to add ducklings to add interest to the piece, and because they are cute. My reason for using gouache was that I just enjoy working with the material.
