For this project, we were limited to only using palette knives to create our piece. Our focus of this work was texture, layering, and color. We were encouraged to pick a photograph as inspiration. I chose a photo of me and my friends in Charleston, SC. My original idea, however, was a cityscape photo from the same city, but the amount of detail could not be shown using a palette knife. I used acrylic paint and flour to thicken it. Throughout the different layers of the painting, I used differing amounts of flour to create different textures. This is seen especially in the sea foam, as this was the top layer, and I wanted to add a sort of 3D element. I started with the sky, and the sand, and worked on adding layers to the ocean.
