wire sculpture

We were asked to create a chain out of wire, then a sculpture of a cup. Afterwards, we were asked to get an object that had a lot of meaning and nostalgia and make a sculpture of that out of wire. The subject of my creation is a stuffed animal that I used to love when I was little. It is a pink flamingo named Pinky. I made the work by bending and connecting wire with needle nosed pliers and round nosed pliers.

I used shape to get the form of Pinky. I also used form, because I had to get the form of Pinky's body. I ended up restarting the project twice early on. I started out with twisting wire, but trashed that. I also used thinner wire to add contour lines near the end.

Pinky was a little stuffy that my Grammie had. Every time I went to visit her house in the summer, I got to play with pinky. I never took it home until recently. When I was younger, I loved everything pink. Obviously, this meant I loved Pinky. I am proudest of my perseverance in making the sculpture, and I'm proudest of how I got the shape and the lines okay. I struggled with keeping the wire from hinging, but I just kept tightening it and hoping for the best. I also struggled with connecting, since the wire would move around a lot. Again, perseverance was all it took. If I could change anything, I would fix the joints and make it neater.
