Elements and Principles diptych

The top piece has colorful circles increasing in size from the left to the right. the bottom piece has five colorful circles hovering above the ground. The use circles and color in the artwork is inspired by the album cover for Innuendo by Queen.

The work was done with a graphite sketch, then a sharpie background for the top piece. I then colored the circles with watercolor. The bottom piece was done with watercolor for the circles, shadows, and background, and I used a micron pen for inking inside the circles.

The top piece was created using movement and shape. The piece was supposed to seem like the circles were getting closer. The bottom piece was created based off of value and pattern. The pattern was the circles, and the value is the shading on the circles. the top piece wasn't originally going to have a background, but I added the shattered effect after thinking of abstract and shapes. The bottom piece just had a white background until I decided to add shadows and dimension. I also made some of the shard like pieces extend into the drawing. my next steps would be to get a white pen and add highlights and clean up lines. I would also make a bigger connection between the top and bottom pieces.
