Sustained Investigation #1

This drawing is based off of my favorite song, Hum Hallelujah by Fall Out Boy. Each image is based off of lyrics in the song and colors and weather I associate with the song. This song has a lot of meaning to me, as it helped me get through some of the hardest times in my life. In the middle I drew myself, cured up, because thats how I usually sat when I was struggling and listening to this song. The images were based off of lyrics such as "the road outside my house is paved with good intentions, hired a construction crew cuz its hell on the inside, sometimes we take chances, sometimes we take pills," "your insides X-rayed," "we're a bull, your ears are just a china shop," and "theres a chapel in a hospital, one foot in your bedroom and one foot out the door."

The materials I used to make this are watercolor paint, pen, water-based markers, sharpies, and white charcoal.

In this work I tried to use color and line to affect the mood of the drawing. I also used the color and the dark in the background to provide contrast, as well as the lack of color on the subject in the middle to provide contrast with the rest of the drawing. After I did most of the painting, I decided to enhance the drawing by breaking the border. My next steps would be to go over some of the lines that got faded by the watercolor, and maybe add some more shading with the watercolor on the clouds or road. I might also try to incorporate more lyrics in the art, like on the prescription bottle.
