We were asked to recreate an image using scratchboard. to warm up with the tools, we made a value strip. the subject of my creation is my friend Sydney. i used the scratch tools provided in class to create this.
i used a lot of value. theres a lot of shading. theres line because the value was made by scratching individual lines. there is also texture because some objects have rougher lines than others. theres contrast between the light and dark of the work, and movement in the water. some things i took creative liberty on. like the shading on her jacket and the landscape in the background. i also noticed some of the stone in the bottom right looked sloppy, so i went over it to make it more unified with the rest of the work.
One day our eighth grade went on a field trip. all of my friends were there, and we decided to go mini golfing. it was very beautiful, and Sydney looked like a model, so i snapped some pictures of her. She's one of my best friends and i love drawing her. im really proud of all the value and texture and how realistic this work looks. i struggled a lot with the trees in the back. if i could change anything, i would make those trees look better and maybe spend more time with the water.
