Description of Professional Learning Opportunity
The Paraprofessional Facilitator Training Program will build capacity in schools by empowering paraprofessional facilitators to host weekly professional learning opportunities for paraprofessionals in each participating school. Paraprofessional facilitators will develop facilitation skills and leadership abilities. Paraprofessional participants will attend targeted sessions in their schools each week that further their skills and knowledge. Paraprofessionals will be supported with this information to maximize their ability to successfully support students’ needs and collaborate with their school community.
My Thoughts on the Program
I responded to a request made from my Principal to be a part of the Train the Trainer for Paraprofessionals by Paraprofessionals professional learning opportunity. The goal of the program is to provide support, exchange ideas, and acknowledge the work Paraprofessionals are doing. The professional learning opportunities have helped to build a bridge of communication between paraprofessionals in the district, which in turn supports the students we work with.
Our jobs as Paraprofessionals are not always easy. Train the Trainer has helped enhance how we work together as a community of educators. It makes me feel valued, as I build relationships, develop significant contribution in my learning and growth. I am able to teach into the strategies and model when I’m facilitating. This helps not just the staff but also the students we work with.
Basically, I love what I do. I enjoy working with the entire school community. A lot has changed from then to now. In this current school year, I have learned a great deal. I have shared a great deal. The opportunity allows for me to continue my passion!
