BIOGRAPHY
Sabrina Cordera, a BFA Digital Media art major at San Jose State University, uses her art to create fantastical 3D art. Originally a Graphic Design major, she uses her past experiences in that field to build her art in the digital space. She creates bold and experimental art using coding, Blender, and digital drawing programs. She takes inspiration from cartoons, life experiences, and stories from others to build the foundation of her art.
ARTIST STATEMENT
As a child with three older siblings, Sabrina ended up with a lot of their old art supplies that they no longer used. This included play-doe, clay, watercolor paint, crayons, and colored pencils. She also watched her father do woodworking and her grandmother sewed clothes that she would gift to Sabrina and her siblings. Sabrina ended up being drawn to using these supplies and being exposed to various forms of art. These experiences Sabrina has carried into her art as she is not content with sticking with one form of art even digitally.
Lonely Performance, Digital illustration, 2023
Everyone has experienced loneliness at one point in their life. How they cope with that feeling is different from person to person. In this art piece, I wanted to show a version of loneliness where people feel like they have to show that they are not lonely even if it's just for themselves hence the empty audience.
Leshy with Child, Blender 2023
I have loved the concept of cryptids and the stories people tell of them. I wanted to create my cryptid. Using the molerat as a base, I created it to have multiple eyes to look for prey. I placed it in a swamp as I wanted Leshy to be covered in moss and hunt on land and water. In the process of making Leshy, it was commented to me that his skin folds look like Leshy gave birth and thus I made Leshy have a child to teach how to hunt.
Bunnies and Bananas, P5.js, 2023
Growing up with rabbits as a pet, I thought it would be fun to animate bouncing bunnies using array and class functions. Since most people think rabbits' favorite food is carrots, I wanted to subvert that notion and have bananas, a rabbit's actual favorite, changing colors in the background.
